Where do lost refunds
come from?
More than 108,000 people have money just waiting for them in
government accounts. The money was an over payment for a required government
service and is not a tax refund. This money is held by the government in the
owner’s name with a HUD Case #: and with an opening date. The opening date of
the refund is very important because the government will only hold the money in
your name for six years from the opening date. After the six years the
government removes the owner’s name from the account. At that time the refund
can no longer be paid back to the owner.
How can the government
take money from someone without telling them?
The Government does tell the owner in a round about way. The
paper work starts when the government receives information of the cancellation
of this required service. The government works out the details, how much was
paid for the service and how long the service was in place. This paper work
takes some time and work to determine the amount of the refund ($100 to more
than $8,000). Once the refund amount is worked out the details of the refund
account are listed on a form with instructions to the owner on what is needed to
collect the money. With this information, forms and instructions the owner can
claim their money and receive payment.
If the refund owner
receives the information and forms in the mail
why not just send in the paper work?
From the time the government service is requested to the time the refund is
payable could be many years. It is surprising but the government only has the
address at the time service was started. The IRS does not share address
information with the refund office.
How many people live in the same house for ten years or more? When the refund
details, instructions and forms were mailed to the owner, it was too late. The
owner had moved years before and does not receive the refund information.
Without the refund information the owner is unable to claim their lost money.
That is one reason for the six-year time limit to claim your money. Without the
time limit the record keeping would become almost impossible. With the sort time
limit of six years there are more than 90,000 refunds payable at this time. How

Is there a government

If you have ever had an FHA loan on your home, business or investment
property and sold the property or paid off the loan early you may be the
rightful owner of a refund ($100 to $8,000). Say you buy a house with an FHA
loan of 30 years, then the FHA requires you to pay the mortgage insurance
premium for the full 30 years up front. Say you only live in the house for five
years and sell it and pay off the loan, then the Government owes you a refund
for 25 years of insurance.

How do you collect your
own refund?
First you need to find out the account number of the refund.
Then you need to know the refund payable date. Then you need the last known
address listed on the government records. Once you find this information. Then
you need to find the phone number of the government office which handles your
refund. Then just call give your name and account number. Then the person on the
phone will ask you for your current address. Then the refund government office
will mail you a set of instructions and forms. Follow the instructions and mail
the forms back to the address given you in the forms. Now all you have to do is
wait up to 90 days for payment.
